Hello everyone! In case you missed it, on June 23rd the Lady I rescued wrote #SomethingsUp and explained about going in for back surgery and not being able to blog for awhile. Well, its been more than awhile, the Lady planned a 4-day hospital visit, but it turned into 10. There were very serious complications during her first surgery, she lost a great deal of blood, causing the OR team to suspend surgery, wheeling her into Neuro ICU for four days with an unstable spine. For four days she had to stay on her back while having a severe allergic reaction to anti-biotics, and painful tests such as a pelvic bone marrow biopsy to determine the reason for the blood loss. By the time they wheeled her into surgery again on June 27th she was NOT a very happy person.
The first few days the Lady left me I did not behave very well for dad. Gone so long the first day and many times the next few days I missed the Lady terribly. But he finally started doing things with me like taking me to his work’s picnic where I met two of my followers Pom and Skye, their mom works with my dad. By Sunday the guilt really began to settle in and he actually walked me to my park where I got to see all of my pals and they met dad for the first time. Dad only worked half days, stopping by the hospital on his way home at lunch time then coming home to take care of me. We would spend the afternoon out in our little backyard together while he worked on his projects. I really enjoyed those times.
The Lady finally made it out of Neuro ICU into a regular room. Slowly tubes were removed and she started to really miss me. At night the rise and fall of her compression socks made her think that I was at the end of the bed turning circles and plopping down once things were right. Finding out about dad taking me to the park made her cry happy tears. We had terrible storms one night and she worried about me being scared but dad put my Thundershirt on me so she wouldn’t worry. The weather turned glorious for July in Chicago and the Lady started to get restless. Promised a transfer to the rehab floor since leaving ICU, someone dragged their feet getting the approval and she languished uncomfortably. Finally, the doctors got the message. Since she had done so well on all of her physical therapy they decided she was well enough to return home since dad had the long weekend off.
Of course I am very happy to have the Lady home again. She isn’t quite the Lady who left me though, until I get her back to her old self again I won’t be satisfied. As far as our blog is concerned we aren’t sure yet. For the Lady to sit in any position and be able to use a laptop, computer or even iPhone is very difficult for her. It could be a few weeks before we return to full time blogging, perhaps with a mini re-launch. Next Tuesday she gets her staples out, there is a long zipper of them that run from her tailbone to her left shoulder blade, and starts physical therapy, then we’ll know more. She uses a walker or a cane, still has to take lots of pills, and naps, so I keep a very close eye on her, staying right at her heels, while keeping one eye on the cane, and leaving my squeaky toys all over in case she wants to kick one. We know other bloggers who have dealt with serious health issues and we use their inspiration and motivation to keep us going. Until then thanks for everyone’s concerns and well wishes. I just may have to rescue her all over again!
