Quite a bit of excitement in our little urban back yard the other morning! The Lady I rescued took Taffy and I outside for a potty break only to find one of our neighbors chickens exploring it. I can’t say she panicked but Taffy and I were clueless as we didn’t see or smell it yet.
We’ve known there are chickens next door for some time. Taffy and I smelled them on the other side of the fence, and then one evening dog daddy Brad looked out the window to see if he was hearing right. Sure enough, five half grown chickens pecking around in our neighbor’s back yard. He has the area between our two buildings fenced in with gates on both ends for miscellaneous outdoor storage. Not really a good place for chickens we found out.
Anyway before Taffy and I knew it the Lady ran upstairs, when she came back she started taking pictures and that’s when Taffy saw the chicken and went for it. There were screams of “Taffy no,” and more screaming in general as she pulled Taffy off the chicken and threw her inside the back door.
That’s when I went for it, with the same results, ending up inside the back door. The Lady ran around the front to get the neighbor’s phone number on the building as he owns rental properties. She called him and he sent his son over to rescue the chicken.
Relieved but surprised that the chicken was okay she let us back out. But, Taffy and I knew what we almost had and weren’t happy about it!
Nobody lets a chicken in Dolly’s yard and gets away with it!
Taffy, wigglebutt in action, continued to search the perimeter to relive her glory of almost ripping a chicken to shreds right before the Lady.
So, if a chicken landed in your yard, what would you do?
