It’s that time of the year when all the pet bloggers get together and answer the same set of questions about their accomplishes and challenges from last year. We know we already did out top ten blog posts and our 2018 goals but this challenge makes us think quite a bit harder about what we did and why, and what worked and why. So the Lady I rescued and I are up for the challenge again! Thanks to Amy at Go Pet Friendly for hosting this event again!
1. For those who may be visiting your blog for the first time, how long have you been blogging and what is your main topic?
I posted our first blog in September 2012 which is hard to believe! My main topic is Dolly the Doxie, my adopted, rescued Dachshund mix, and the things we do together to stay healthy and fit in the big city of Chicago.
2. What was your proudest blogging moment of 2017?
I don’t think there is one proudest moment, but I’m very proud of a lot of the content that I published this year about dog’s health such as Taffy’s bronchitis, Dolly’s pancreatitis, canine cancer and the dog flu. Being asked to join the Bayer Animal Health influencer team meant a lot to me too and provided us with a wealth of learning opportunities and content to share.
3. Which of your blog posts was your favorite this year and why? (Please include a link.)
As I looked at the lists of posts from last year, I immediately knew that the post about losing our pal Zoe the Collie was my favorite. It’s mostly photos, some good, some not, but I feel that those that read it can understand what a special dog she was and how much we miss her and her owner Ed. When I read a post and can’t figure how I came up with it I know then it’s a good post.
4. In terms of your blog, how do you measure success?
Page views, views, views. That’s it. Practically the first thing I do every morning is look at my statistics from the day before. Despite how depressing they are I’m still surprised that anyone reads what I post! Page views are what brands want and the bigger the number the more success is likely, in my book anyway.
5. In what ways has your blog changed during 2017?
The content is much better. Not so much fun stories about Dolly, and Taffy, which I love writing. I hope it’s more informative with information that pet parents are searching for.
6. What was the biggest blogging challenge you overcame in 2017, and what did you learn that could help other bloggers?
Posting regularly and I think being satisfied for the last several months with one post a week. I just didn’t seem to have enough content for any more. Or, a lot of the content I want to provide is hard for me to write. It takes research and a lot of time to understand and organize it properly, like doing a term paper in school. Not just a piece of creative writing that I prefer doing.
I don’t think I learned anything that can help other bloggers because it’s still a challenge for me, and other blogs post almost every day. I have a goal for 2018 to post three times a week and I already think I won’t make it the first week.
7. When things get hard, what keeps you blogging? (Question submitted by Pamela Douglas Webster of Something Wagging This Way Comes)
I remind myself how much I’ve put into it, time and money, and that if I gave it up I’d have pretty much nothing else.
8. Looking forward to 2018, what are you hoping to accomplish on your blog this year?
I invested in a consultant late last year to work on my SEO and to grow my reach. That’s what I’ll focus on the most this year. There may also be a major rebranding coming depending of some life changes, that we’re excited about though!
9. In addition to what you’d like to accomplish, is there one specific skill you’d like to improve or master this year?
(Question submitted by Jodi Chick of Kol’s Notes)
I’m working on my photography skills, I learned some new tricks this year, and I hope to get better with my DSLR and my iPhone.
Now it’s your turn! What would you like to see more of from Dolly and me in the upcoming year? And is there anything you don’t want to see? We can take your honesty, really! Thanks so much for letting us pet bloggers indulge ourselves once a year, it’s very beneficial to us!
What will 2018 bring for Dolly and the Lady?
